Uyo—EXEC-UTIVE Council of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Akwa Ibom State chapter, has applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for giving priority attention to the regular payment of salaries of local government workers.

In a statement by the state President,  Anestina Iweh and Publicity Secretary, Kingsley Akpan, yesterday in Uyo, they also commended the state government for adopting the vouchering system to ensure that no local government worker in the state is owed salary.

The union added that apart from regular and prompt payment of monthly salaries, Governor Emmanuel had few months into his administration, cleared a backlog of gratuities and pensions to retired local government workers from 2002 to 2011.

The statement said the development, under Emmanuel, was monumental, adding that the union will always be grateful for the government’s efforts.

It, therefore,  described recent statements credited to the National President of the Union, Ibrahim Khaleel listing Akwa Ibom State among the 23 states in the country owing its council workers months of salaries as erroneous.

The union accordingly disclaimed the statement while pleading with the state government and Akwa Ibom people to disregard the publication.
