Returnee Lagos-based Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Ikorodu United, is counting on the support of Lagos fans for their survival in the league, an official has said.

Ikorodu United spokesperson Babatunde Ayoola said this on Monday in Lagos that the team appreciated the level of support it got from Lagos fans.

He spoke on the heels of the clubs record three straight wins on Sunday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

The Oga Boys secured their first ever three straight wins in the Match Day 20 of NNL 2016/2017 season in Lagos after a self-exile in Abeokuta.

The NNL side, founded in 2014, had relocated to MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, for their campaign in the NNL after relegation from the premier summit in 2015/2016 season.

The team, however, was unable to find its rhythm in Abeokuta where they suffered yet another relegation scare. The team’s management then took the decision to return to Lagos.

Since their return to Lagos, Ikorodu United has been able to secure three straight wins, a record for the team in the season.

The Oga Boys had played Bayelsa United whom they defeated 1-0 through a goal from Abiodun Kayode. They also defeated Lagos-based Racine 1-0 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

In continuation of their 100 per cent home win, Ikorodu United on Sunday defeated Akwa Starlets 2-0 to swim out of the relegation waters.

A surprising 30 seconds goal from Dede Moughara and Rilwan Sadiq in the 43rd minute gave Ikorodu United the much needed win.

The Oga Boys are now placed 13th on the Southern Conference NNL log comprising of 18 teams.

Speaking on the resurgence of the club after a return to Lagos, Ayoola said that the team had enjoyed tremendous support of the fans since they returned to Lagos.

“It has been a revival since we moved back to Lagos and we have enjoyed every bit of it. The way the fans are cheering the team is encouraging.

“We have enjoyed much support from Lagos fans since our return to the city. It’s really nice to be back at home where you are loved.

“We are banking on their support to push farther in our campaign in the NNL. We also seek to gain promotion back to the elite league maybe in a shortest possible time,’’ he said.
