Barely 20 days to the conduct of forthcoming Local Government elections in Lagos State,Chairmanship candidate under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ifako-Ijaiye, Local Government Area, Apostle Oloruntoba Oke has promised to reposition the council if elected as the next Chairman of the LGA.
Oke, who was the council boss in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government between 2011 and 2014, in a chat with newsmen, said he is on a mission to actualize developmental projects which he could not finish in his last term.
“One of the reasons why am re-contesting is because, I noticed that some of the projects I left before the office almost three years ago were not touched and still at the level I left it.
“If I am re-elected as Chairman, I will create more job opportunities and employment, markets will be transformed, and motor parks will be constructed to cater for the populace and decongest the gridlock in and around the council.”
He added that Ifako-Ijaiye Tuntun Community would be given special priority because of the need to address the challenges facing the area in terms of roads.
He maintained that some of the roads in the community would not be constructed by the council but would draw the state government’s attention to the area adding that his experience would count if re-elected.
“What I’m bringing to the table now is my experience. There are some things I did not have then which I have now. So, I can do it in a better way that is why we called it continuity.
“It is generally agreed that no government can perform 100 percent but if we are able to achieve between 70 to 80 percent, I think that will be okay,” the APC candidate said.
While answering question on his strategy to address economic recession, Oke said his administration would focus on Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, coupled with the monthly allocation from Federal Government.
According to him, “Don’t forget that the shop owners will continue to pay taxes and rates. If we use good machinery for effective collection, we will get results.”
He recalled as a former chairman in the council, when the IGR he met was N1.2 million monthly before he was able to increase it to N15million before leaving office.
The APC candidate also pointed out that he was ready to operate an open door policy, adding that those who contested the primary along with him would be accommodated to run his government.
He sought the support of the residents in the council to support his government when eventually inaugurated.
Oke also called on the residents to be security conscious, saying “security is everybody’s business, government alone cannot solve the security challenges without the people themselves being security conscious.”
