ASABA—A non governmental organisation, Joy in Africa Foundation, has advised against stigmatisation of children with disability, calling on government and well meaning individuals to assist them in fulfilling their destiny.
According to the founder of the foundation, which has its headquarters in Asaba, Delta State, Joy Iselobunor, she has passion for the disabled because she was a victim of disability at age 9 before succour came her way and today she caters for over 50 children in her foundation home.
She made this disclosure during a celebration to mark the foundation’s ninth anniversary at Asaba, explaining that the foundation has put in place a special system that brings ability in disability, especially education with therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language pathologists taking care of the special children.
A guest speaker at the event, Sir Monday Emoghavwe,a three-time paralympic Olympic gold medalist , harped on the need to harness the hidden talents in people with disability using sports as a case study.
