Blames Taraba State Government of complicity
A group, Save Humanity Advocacy Centrehas called on the federal government to invite a Special Prosecutor from the International Criminal Court to take over the probe of the recent killings on the Mambila Plateau in Taraba state.
In a letter to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and signed by Comrade Abubakar Ibrahim, Executive Director of the group, it noted that in view of the allegations by victims of the incidence that what happened in Mambilla Plateau in Taraba state was a pogrom, the ICC may be in the best position to investigate this allegation since the Federal Government may be hampered from carrying out an unbiased investigations into the matter.
He warned that if the incidence was allowed to go uninvestigated, “it will spell future disaster for the country as ethnic cleansing could become a trend that eventually compromises the corporate integrity of the country. The few states that once allow the folly of ethnic cleansing on their soils are yet to get out the cycle of reprisals till date,” the center noted.
The group said without prejudice to what the investigation will uncover, it is only right that Taraba State governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, the speaker of the state assembly, Mr. Abel Diah, and authorities of Sardauna Local Government under whose duty the protection of the lives of the citizens fall should accept responsibilities for what happened.
“Community and traditional leaders in the area must also pay for their indifference to the sufferings of those maimed and their properties destroyed. They too must be made to keep a date with the ICC to serve as lesson to others,” the group stated.
