Owerri—Hundreds of protesters, yesterday, staged a demonstration at the entrance of Imo State Government House, against the plan by the state government to hand over the staff of office to one Dennis Onyebuagu, as the traditional ruler of Ibiasoegbe community in Oru West Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson of the group, Mr. Chigoziri Odogwu, told Vanguard that the eze stool tussle had lasted for 11 years.
Odogwu said one of the reasons for their protest was that Ibiasoegbe was mentioned as one of the communities their traditional rulers would receive staff of office as announced on the radio.
He said: “We are not happy to hear that our community was mentioned among those that will be given staff of office and we are told that it is one Mr. Dennis Onyebuagu.
“The same man said he was given staff of office by the former governor of Imo state, Chief Achike Udenwa, since 2007 and sever since, he has been parading himself as a traditional ruler.
“Let me tell you, we already have a crown prince. His name is Chukwuemeka Nletigbo. Also, it is good that we tell you that the eze throne is hereditary and not rotatory as claimed by the same man.
“At this point, we also want the Imo State government to know that the matter is in court and it will be wrong and against the law to give the staff of office to Onyebuagu.”
